Step Onto the Fairway: The Complete Guide to MA4 in Disc Golf

For anyone looking to transition from casual weekend rounds to official tournament play, the world of competitive disc golf can feel vast and intimidating. Between player ratings, tiered events, and complex rule books, knowing where to begin is often the hardest part. Enter MA4—the division designed specifically to welcome newcomers into the fold.

What is MA4?

Formally known as Mixed Amateur 4 (Novice), MA4 is a skill-based division governed by the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA). With a rating threshold capped strictly at 850 and below, it serves as the entry-level tier for players who are either brand new to tournament golf or still working on building consistent mechanics.
